Graylight walked into camp wondering where Fadespirit was
ReplyDeleteFadespirit awoke with a start, looking around. He could see Graylight in the camp, so he got up and limped out. "Hi." he greeted.
ReplyDelete"Oh, hello!"Graylight said, happy to see Fadespirit awake."Would you like to go hunting later?"she asked,walking up to him.
ReplyDeleteFadespirit smiled. Truth be told he'd love to go hunting. He opened his mouth to say so, then a thought occured to him. Would he actually catch anything?
ReplyDelete'Well it doesn't matter.' he thought. 'I'm going hunting anyway.'
So he said, "Sure, I'd love to."
"Cool!"Graylight said joyfully,"Let's go!"She trotted oout of camp.
ReplyDeleteFadespirit followed her out of camp, sniffing for prey as he went.
ReplyDeleteGraylight stopped suddenly.Scenting mouse,she went into a hunter's crouch and,when the mouse scurried out from it's hiding place,she sprang and killed it with ease between her powerful jaws.She padded quikly over to Fadespirit and gave him the mouse shyly."Here,"she said,"I caught it for you..."

ReplyDeleteFadespirit's eyes widened a bit, and he looked down embarassed. He'd try to catch prey for her now. "You didn't have to do that. . ."

ReplyDelete"Well, okay." Fadespirit agreed. He techincally took prey from someone else everytime he took from the fresh kill, so this should be fine. He ate at the prey tentitavily.
Then he sat up and smiled. "Come on, I think it's my turn to catch something."
Graylight looked relieved,he had actually taken the prey and now he was going to catch something for her!She said,"Thanks,Fadespirit!"
ReplyDeleteFadespirit smiled and sniffed for prey. The most obvious were pigeons but, they could fly. He walked towards the scent of a squirrel.
ReplyDeleteFinding it, he got himself, but couldn't go down all the way. He stalked slowly closer towards the squirrel. Its ears went up, it had noticed him.
'Mouse dung!' he thought. He shoved himself forward, but the squirrel got away. He sighed. That, had been embarrassing.
Graylight had not really been paying attention,she had been watching a pidgeon on the roof of a nearby building nibling at a seed."Look at that bird..."she said,fascinated at how it could eat seeds.
ReplyDeleteFadespirit let out a short sigh of relief, glad they weren't going to talk about his hunting. He turned and looked at the pidgeon. He tilted his head, trying to see what Graylight saw.
ReplyDeleteGraylight stopped looking at the pidgeon and turned to Fadespirit."Maybe we should split up.I'll go this way,"she flicked her tail to show where she would go,"and you'll go the other way!"with that she spead off in the other direction.
ReplyDelete"See you later!" Fadespirit called. He walked back the way he'd come, on the side of the Thunderpath. Since hunting hadn't gone so well, he knew one way he'd have a better chance of getting food.
ReplyDeleteHe walked up to a twoleg and meowed. Then Fadespirit looked at the twoleg with what he hoped were big sweet eyes. They must've been because the twoleg tossed him some food. He picked it up, then slid away, sniffing for more food that wasn't moving.
Dawstar walked into camp, wondering what her kit was up to."Berrykit!"she called as she padded over to the nursery.
ReplyDeleteFadespirit entered camp. Looking around he saw Graylight wasn't back yet. He walked over and set some of his 'prey' onto the fresh kill pile. But he still kept some for when Graylight showed up.
ReplyDeleteGraylight came back to camp,empty pawed,part of her hoped Fadespirit hadn't returned to see her poor hunting skills,and part of her hoped he was back in time to console her.She padded into camp and said,"I'm back...and hungry!"She walked over to Fadespirit and purred warmly."At least you had some luck!"she said,refering to the 'prey' he had brought back.
ReplyDeleteFadespirit smiled. "I suppose. But it wasn't really hunting." He said. He gave her the food he'd kept. "Have some of this."
ReplyDelete"No...I suppose it isn't,but in leafbare everything counts!"she replied."And thanks for saving me some!I'm famished!"She bent down and began to eat ravenously.
ReplyDeleteBerrykit leaped onto her mother ,and as soon as she saw Fadespirit,her 'favourite cat',she let out a squeak of joy and scampered over and said in a rush of excitement,"I'm going to be an apprentice soon and you're gonna be my mentor!"as soon as the words had left her lips she said quickly,"I shouldn't have told you that!Mom's the one who should've told you!Oops!"Berrykit looked shocked and scared."Will an owl come and eat me because I broke the ritual?!?"

ReplyDeleteDawstar leaped onto the high-rock calling the familiar words to gather her clan,"May all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the high-rock for a clan meeting!"She watched as her small clan gathere before her.
ReplyDeleteFadespirit walked over. He smiled at Berrykit as he passed. "No, I doubt you'll have to worry about owls." He added quietly, And if one does come, we'll fight him off."
ReplyDeleteGraylight walked over and sat beneath the high-rock."You don't suppose it is an apprentice ceremony,do you?"she asked Fadespirit."If it is one Berrkit will probably be given to you."
ReplyDeleteBerrykit scamperred across the clearing and sat beside the high-rock,waiting for Willowkit,who,came running to his side.
ReplyDeleteDawnstar looked up at her clan."The time has come for two kits to assume their apprentice names and begin their training.Willowkit, do you promise to obey the warrior code and train to be a warrior of Formerclan?"
ReplyDeleteWillowkit replied solemly,"I do so promise."
ReplyDelete"Then from this moment on,until she has earned her warrior name,this apprentice shall be called Willowpaw!Your mentor shall be Graylight."Dawnstar looked at Graylight and said,"You have shown loyalty and courage,pass on all you know to Willowpaw."she turned to Berrykit."Berrykit,do you promise to obey the warrior code and train to be a warrior of Formerclan?"

ReplyDelete"Then from this moment on,until he has earned his warrior name,this apprentice shall be called Berrypaw!Your mentor shall be Fadespirit."turning to Fadespirit she said,"You have shown great determination and loyalty,pass these qualities and all you know on to young Berrypaw."
ReplyDeleteGraylight bent down to touch noses with her new apprentice,excitement flooding through her,she thought,"I have an apprentice!"
ReplyDeleteBerrypaw ran over to Fadespirit and thrust his nose to Fadespirit's."When are we going training?"
ReplyDeleteFadespirit nodded to Dawnstar solemly. Then he turned to Berrypaw and smiled. "Well, now if you like." He leaned down and touched noses with Berrypaw.
ReplyDeleteDawnstar signalled ,with her tail, that she was not yet finished with the meeting."It has come to my attention that we have had,and still do,no deputy.I have decided to make Fadespirit deputy."she said.Nodding to Fdespirit,she leapt off the rock and sat down outside her den.
ReplyDelete"Whoa!I'm the deputy's apprentice!Willowpaw!My mentor's the deputy!"Berrypaw mewed excitedly,running around in a crcle.
ReplyDeleteFadespirit blinked. He was surprised he'd just become deputy, and honestly a little uncertain if he could handle it. But he bowed his head respectfully. "Thank you Dawnstar."
ReplyDeleteGraylight ran up to him."Congratulations!"she said brightly."What an honour!I'm sure you'll be an awsome deputy!"Graylight pressed her side to his,reasuring him.

ReplyDeleteBerrypaw showed his disgust by gagging on rolling his eyes."Can we go training now?"
ReplyDeleteFadespirit rolled his eyes, but wasn't too bothered by Berrypaw. "Yes, we can train." He started for the way out. "I think we'll start with fighting." They wouldn't have to go far for that, but it would be a good idea to be outside of camp.
ReplyDeleteGraylight watched Fadespirit go with a dreamy look in her eyes.She was thinking of when he had preesed into her.
ReplyDeleteDawnstar looked around at her clan,thinking asbout when she would no longer be there to lead them.Her expression must have shown what she was thinking for at that moment her mate,Featherstripe gave her a look and said,"It's okay.Don't think about that right now..." They touched noses."You're right."She smiled,grateful for such a wonderful mate.
