Mysteryclan has, arguably, the best territory. Their camp is under a bridge out of the city, and their territory consists mostly of the beach around the bridge. They are the most secretive and seclusive of the clans, but that isn't necessarily true when it comes to their own members.
Mysterystar sat out on a rock, a little ways into the ocean. She stared at the water, but she doubted any fish would come by. They'd have to be farther out for that. Too far out to get to.

Cindertail gazed out across the ocean looking for her leader."Mysterystar!"she called out across the water wondering what she could be doing.
ReplyDeleteMysterystar got up and stepped into the water. She wasn't about to shout through the waves to have a conversation with a warrior, so she walked over. "Hello Cindertail."
ReplyDeleteCindertail looked relieved."I just wondered where you were."she replied,her eyes twinkling.
ReplyDeleteMysterystar smiled slightly. "I thought there might be some fish out there." she explained, waving her tail at the water.
ReplyDelete"Oh,I see."Cindertail replied dreamily,"I wonder..."She padded in a ciecle around Mysterystar."Are you heading back to camp?"
ReplyDelete"Hmm." Mysterystar thought about it. "I'm not sure. Would you like me to come back?"
ReplyDeleteEbonypaw's ears flicked up as she heard Cindertail and Mysterystar speak. She padded closer towards them, hoping she could hear what they were taking about over the crashing of the waves.
ReplyDelete"Yes...I was wondering who Ebonypaw's mentor shall be..."Cindertail replied as if in a far off land.
ReplyDeleteMysterystar nodded. "Okay." she gave one of her rare real smiles. "Let's go give Ebonypaw his mentor." With a flick of her tail, she started back towards camp.
ReplyDeleteCindertail wondered amusedly if her leader was smiling at Ebonypaw or her."Coming"she said as she followed Mysterystar.
ReplyDeleteMysterystar jumped up. "May all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather around!" she called. She watied as her small clan came over. "It is time Ebonypaw had a mentor." She turned to her. "Ebonypaw, your mentor is Cindertail."
ReplyDeleteCindertail jumped not expecting to take on an apprentice so soon,but smiles at the thought of her leader trusting her with Ebonypaw's training."Thank you."She said as she walked over to Ebonypaw.
ReplyDeleteEbonypaw flicked her ears up in surprise, and her eyes widened with glee. "Oh, thank you Mysterystar!" She padded up, and touched her nose to Cindertail in greeting, trying to contain her happiness so she didn't look like a kit.
ReplyDeleteMysterystar smiled. She watched the two, letting out a soft sight. Really, their reactions had been similar. That seemed like a good sign.
ReplyDeleteCinertail smiled at Ebonypaw and asked,"Would you like to go train a bit?"Though Ebonypaw had not answered yet she new the answer already.
ReplyDeleteEbonypaw gleamed, hoping Cindertail would ask her that. "Hooray!!" She exclaimed. A second later however, she flattened her ears with shame. New apprentices don't act like this! She cleared her throat. "Um, I mean, that would be great!".
ReplyDeleteCindertail smiled.Clearly amused."C'mon!Lets go!"she ran out of camp happily.
ReplyDeleteEbonypaw's eyes sparkled. "Great!" She trotted after her new mentor happily, flicking her tail behind her.
ReplyDeleteCindertail leaped over a rock and into the training hollow,"Ebonypaw,I think we should practise some battle training...Or would you prefer to hunt?"
ReplyDeleteEbonypaw pricked her claws with anticipation. She had been waiting to train since she was a kit! Now was her chance! "I would love to battle train!" She said with excitement. However, a second later, she lowered her head. "But, I have no idea what to do!" Hopefully, her mentor wouldn't mind teaching her the very basics, as when she was a kit, she was stuck in the medicine cat den sick, while her litter-mates play fought.

Her claws pricked the ground with the thought of how good she could be in her first battle, but her thoughts scattered when she remembered that training in camp was with paws sheathed. She quickly tucked her claws back in and flicked her tail. "Ready!"
ReplyDeleteCindertail smiled emembering what her mentor had taught her,as she remembered her first training session,she said,with a slight glimmer in her eyes,"attack me."
ReplyDelete(Oh wow sorry, it never posted for some reason) Ebonypaw hesitated. "Any way I want?" What if she was so terrible at fighting that her mentor laughed at her?

ReplyDeleteA surge of excitement rushed through Ebonypaw, and she grinned, all signs of her nervousness gone. She ran towards Cindertail, then jumped up, hoping to land on her back like she had seen another warrior do before.
ReplyDeleteAs Ebonypaw leaped for her back,Cindertail twisted easily and let Ebonypaw crash into the ground.She jumped and landed atop her."That was great for a first time!But remember,your eyes!Glance at where you wish to land your attack,then focus on your enemies eyes until you attack.Try again!"Cindertail moved and let Ebonypaw return to her position,then readied herself.
ReplyDeleteEbonypaw grinned. "Whoops!" She eagerly listened to Cindertail, her eyes wide. She backed up to where she started, ready to try again. Flicking an ear, she glanced quickly at Cindertail's back before meeting her eyes again. Then she wondered what would happen if she looked somewhere different before she jumped. Would that throw her mentor off? Her eyes flickered over to Cindertail's flank, then back to her eyes. With a surge of energy, she leaped high, aiming for her back again, wondering if seeing if she could trick Cindertail was a bad idea.
ReplyDeleteCindertail had fallen for Ebonypaw's trick.She had turned to move her flank from Ebonypaw's reach,not protecting her back,she fell to the ground."Well done!"she said,getting up from the ground.
ReplyDeleteHappiness flooded Ebonypaw as she landed softly beside Cindertail. "Really"? She looked down at the ground, drawing a circle in the dust with her paw, and trying not to beam.
ReplyDelete"Apsolutely!You learn quickly!C'mon how about some hunting?At least then I'll be the one teaching!Not the other way around!"Cindertail joked dusting herself off.
ReplyDelete"Wow, thanks!" Ebonypaw's fur pricked with joy. "Hunting sounds good!" Ebonypaw laughed at her mentor's comment. She was much more nervous about hunting, but maybe she would be better than she thought! After all, she turned out to be a better fighter than she thought!

ReplyDelete"Okay!" Ebonypaw trotted briskly after Cindertail. Fishing looked so hard! She hoped she wouldn't fall in! That would be embarrassing. She twitched her whiskers with excitement. "Is the water really cold?"
ReplyDeleteCindertail looked at her apprentice and said'"No,not really,but if you want to do the kind of fishing I do,you'll have to get a lot more than your paws wet!"With that she swam out and dissapeared beneath the wateronly to reapear with a large fish between her jaws.She swam back,dripping wet."There you go!Or would you prefer I taught you the normal way?"Cindertail's mew was edged with challange,as if she was willing her apprentice to try the hard way.
ReplyDelete"Wow"! Ebonypaw looked at her mentor. She didn't look very cold, and she caught a fish after all! She flicked her tail with excitement, and she couldn't help but smile. She wanted to be just like her mentor! "I want to learn it your way!"
ReplyDeleteCindertail looked at her apprentice affectionately,having an apprentice was turning out to be more fun than she had thought."Ok.You wade out to where you can just stand with you head out,then you take a deep breath and dive.Now,when you're under paddle your paws,and when you see a fish,kick out with your back legs,to give you a boost,and make sure you get the fish with your teeth,not your paws.As soon as you catch one you'll have a limited amount of air,so try get to the surface pretty quickly.Got that?"Cindertail said.Looking at the water around her,she added mischieviously,"Oh,and if you get cold,I'm sure the fish will give you a nice warm cuddle!"
ReplyDeleteEbonypaw laughed at her mentor's last comment as she started to wade out into the water. Her expression faded slightly as she got deeper, but seeing her mentor smiling at her reassured her to keep going. "Whew..Okay.." she commented to herself, trying to steady her worries a little. She took a deep breath, and plunged into the water. Looking around, she saw a couple of small fish not too far away that didn't seem to see her coming. "Hooray!" She let out a happy yowl out of instinct, but to her dismay, the sound scared all the surrounding fish away. Ebonypaw flattened her ears with shame, and squeezed her eyes shut in regret, hovering in the water for a couple seconds. However, having no other choice, she kicked her legs, and returned to the surface with sad frown.
ReplyDeleteCindertail smiled proudly."You know,you've done better than any cat I've ever taught!They all howl with displeasure as soon as they go under!You on the other hand did what I did at first.I was a strange apprentice...I'm probably the only cat that knows how to hunt like that.Well,actually,you know too,so I'm the only other cat,besides you."she said, wading out into the water.
ReplyDelete"Really??" Ebonypaw felt a rush of pride. "The water wasn't bad at all! I even kind of liked it!" She followed her mentor into the water, eager to watch her dive again.

ReplyDelete"Yay! Okay!" Ebonypaw tensed her body, trying to remember exactly what Cindertail did. She dove under the water smoothly, trying to stay as quiet as possible. Looking around, she spotted a small fish, swimming away from her. Determined to make her mentor proud, she quietly paddled closer to it, then suddenly, kicked her legs with all her strength, catching the fish between her jaws. Squeezing down so it couldn't escape, she pushed her legs, and rose quickly to the the surface, smiling eagerly.

ReplyDeleteEbonypaw purred. "I thought I was going to miss it! It was so slippery!" She threw the fish over where Cindertail had put hers, and shook out her wet fur.
ReplyDeleteCindertail picked up her two fish."How about we go back to camp?"she mumbled through her fish."And you can eat your first prey and take mine to the elders."
ReplyDelete"Sounds good!" Ebonypaw picked up her fish, hesitating for a moment before catching her grip on it. She looked up happily at Cindertail, nodding to signal she was ready.
ReplyDeleteCindertail began to gallop towards camp."C'mon!Faster Ebonypaw!"
ReplyDeleteEbonypaw flicked her tail and sprinted after her mentor. The excitement and glee of her first catch filled her body, driving her to run even faster. She followed her mentor back to camp, panting heavily with the fish still in her jaws.
ReplyDeleteCindertail put her fish in front of Ebonypaw."You can eat your fish now if you want,but don't forget to take this,"she prodded her two fish,"to the elders."
ReplyDeleteEbonypaw nodded. She picked up the two fish carefully, then padded towards the elders den. Noticing that they were asleep, she quietly laid the fish down and padded softly out of the den and back to where her mentor stood. "That was great! I learned so much today!" She exclaimed with excitement.
ReplyDeleteCindertail nodded happily."I hope so.Now I'm going to have a nice loooong,"Cindertail stretched and yawned,"nap!"She padded sleepily towardas the warriors den.
ReplyDeleteEbonypaw laughed, but didn't say anything to Cindertail. Her mentor sure needed a nap after spending the whole day with her, running about and teaching her everything! Ebonypaw stretched and lay down in the clearing, watching everything else going on in the camp with slight interest.
ReplyDeleteCindertail padded sleepily bro the warriors den. She went over to her best near the middle of the den.As she went she thought, "It's good to be a senior warrior!"
ReplyDeleteEbonypaw smiled, watching Cindertail. She couldn't wait until she was a warrior! She pricked the ground with curiosity, wondering what her warrior name could be, until the warmth of the sun overtook her, and she fell into a peaceful sleep.
ReplyDeleteEbonypaw stretched out, waking up from her sleep. She couldn't help but feel a little guilty, as she had been dreaming of her warrior name moments ago! She flicked an ear, and got to her feet.

ReplyDelete(YAY!! You're back!! Heehee) Ebonypaw whispered to herself. "Hmm.. Ebonyclaw.. Ebonyclaw..". Yes, that seemed to have a nice ring to it! She glanced quickly around the camp with a sheepish expression, hoping nobody heard her say that.

ReplyDelete"Alright!" Ebonypaw dashed after her mentor eagerly towards the ocean, remembering the last time she was out. She had been practicing darting quickly towards targets in camp, pretending they were fish, but now she was a little worried that she would miss in front of her mentor, and all her efforts to get better would be lost! She shook her head, realizing she was acting silly, and continued to race after Cindertail.

Spotting a fish, she lunged towards it, grabbing it in her jaws. She almost dropped it with surprise, but she held on. Breaking the surface, she threw the fish onto the shore and dove in again.

ReplyDelete(Sorry haha back and forth for vacation!) Ebonypaw shook her fur out, then dove in again, searching for another one. Spotting a school of fish, she excitedly darted over, but trying carefully not to scare them off. She lunged forward and caught one in her jaws, but, determined to prove herself to Cindertail, she lunged for another one, even though she was running low on breath. The fish unexpectedly saw her, and darted away. Ebonypaw opened her mouth with shock, unintentionally letting the fish in her jaws get away. She shook her head angrily, then remembered with a painful ache in her lungs, that she needed air. Sulkily, she rose to the surface again.
ReplyDeleteCindertail scraped off the last of the seaweed and put it in a bundle.She began her journey back.she reached the shore and spat out the seaweed."Ugh!"
ReplyDeleteEbonypaw flicked her ears, scattering water droplets. She glanced at the sky, hoping she had time to catch at least three more. She dove in again, and eyeing a small silver fish, she darted towards it, catching it in her jaws. She quickly rose to the surface again before it could swim away, then threw it on the pile, and dove in again.

ReplyDeleteEbonypaw looked around quickly, not spotting any fish. Just as she was about to give up, she saw a couple swimming closer to her. Staying completely still, she waited until they were right in front of her, then snapped her jaws, catching the two. Delighted by her good luck, she floated to the surface and threw them on the pile. She swam over towards the shore for a moment, wanting to catch her breath before she tried again.

ReplyDeleteEbonypaw waited a bit, catching her breath. She glanced up at the sky, noticing that it was almost noon-high. Taking a deep breath, she plunged in again. The water felt cool against her pelt, having been sitting in the hot sun for a while. While looking around, Ebonypaw spotted a larger fish swimming off to the side. Using her last trick, she waited until it came closer, then lunged suddenly, trapping it in her jaws. She kicked her legs, filled with excitement, and rose to the surface once more and threw it onto her pile. She spotted Cindertail. "Hi!" she said, the happiest she had ever been.

ReplyDeleteCindertail laughed."You did really well,considering that this is your first assesment."She looked at Ebonypaw,then said,"I can tell you'll be a great warrior."
ReplyDeleteEbonypaw smiled and ducked her head shyly. She was so excited to get praise from a real warrior in the Clan! She would show Cindertail that she was a hard worker! "Thanks!" she said, full of excitement. "I'm so glad I have you as a mentor!!"

ReplyDeleteEbonypaw stretched and yawned, tired from her morning's work. She padded towards the apprentice den and lay down, her head peering out to watch the excitement of the camp.
ReplyDeleteMysterystar looked at the sky, frowning. It was getting late, but she could still make it to both borders. She dashed off to Formerclan and started sniffing. Nothing there. Then she turned and started for Shadeclan.
ReplyDeleteCherryblossom thanked Cindertail hastily,picked up the seaweed and made for her den."Thank goodness Cindertail founds this!"she thought,"Most of my stores are dry and shrivelled..." With that she lost herself in thought,completely immersed in her herb sorting.
ReplyDeleteEbonypaw opened her eyes and yawned. She hadn't realized she had fallen asleep! "I hope no one was expecting me for something", she thought.
ReplyDeleteShe looked nervously outside of the den and realized no one was looking for her. With a content sigh, she lay back down and closed her eyes.
